Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC Review UK (2026): Luxury Meets Electric Performance

Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC Review

The premium electric SUV market continues to grow, and Mercedes-Benz has ensured it remains firmly at the top of many buyers’ wish lists with the new GLC 400 4MATIC. Combining luxury, technology and impressive electric performance, this latest addition to the Mercedes-Benz range promises to deliver everything expected from one of the world’s leading premium manufacturers.

I recently had the opportunity to drive the GLC 400 4MATIC finished in the stunning Lavender Silver paintwork, and it certainly made an impression before I’d even stepped inside.

First Impressions

Lavender Silver is one of those colours that changes depending on the light. In bright sunshine, almost metallic silver appears with subtle hints of purple, while in overcast conditions it develops a deeper, richer tone that gives the SUV a sophisticated appearance.

Mercedes has managed to create a vehicle that looks premium without shouting about it. The proportions are balanced, the styling is clean and modern, and the GLC has enough road presence to remind you that you’re driving something special.

Interior and Technology

Stepping inside, you’re greeted by exactly what you’d expect from Mercedes-Benz.

The dashboard is dominated by the impressive wraparound digital display and widescreen infotainment system that stretches across the cabin. Everything feels modern, intuitive and exceptionally well put together.

The materials throughout the cabin are of an incredibly high standard, with soft-touch surfaces, premium finishes, and excellent attention to detail. It’s clear Mercedes has focused on creating an environment where drivers and passengers alike can enjoy every journey.

As you would expect from a luxury SUV in this price bracket, the GLC is packed with technology and driver assistance features. From intelligent navigation through to advanced safety systems and seamless smartphone integration, there are plenty of features to explore.

On the Road

Where the GLC really begins to shine is once you’re moving.

The first thing that stood out during my drive was just how refined it feels. Road noise is kept to an absolute minimum, making motorway cruising incredibly relaxing.

The suspension absorbs imperfections effortlessly, giving the car a composed ride while still feeling reassuringly planted through corners.

Being fully electric, acceleration is instant.

There’s no waiting for gears to change or turbochargers to spool up. Press the accelerator and the power arrives immediately, making overtaking effortless and motorway slip roads disappear remarkably quickly.

The steering is light without feeling disconnected; visibility is excellent, and despite being a sizeable SUV, it never feels intimidating to drive.

Is It Too Fast?

One thought kept returning throughout my drive.

The GLC 400 4MATIC produces an astonishing 483 horsepower and reaches 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds

There’s no denying these figures are hugely impressive.

However, I couldn’t help wondering whether that level of performance is necessary in what is, fundamentally, a luxury family SUV.9

The acceleration is genuinely exciting, but for many buyers looking for comfort, refinement and practicality, it may be more performance than they’ll ever realistically use.

That’s not necessarily a criticism; it simply highlights just how capable modern electric vehicles have become.=

For some drivers, having that performance available will be a major selling point. Others may feel Mercedes could have sacrificed a little outright pace for an even softer, more comfort-focused driving experience.

Electric Performance

Performance isn’t the only headline figure.

The GLC 400 4MATIC is powered by a 94kWh battery, driving all four wheels through a dual-motor system.

Mercedes quotes a WLTP range of up to 406 miles, placing it amongst the better-performing premium electric SUVs currently available.

For business users and families alike, that range means fewer charging stops on longer journeys and more confidence when travelling across the UK.

Practicality

Although performance often grabs the headlines, the GLC remains an incredibly practical vehicle.

The raised driving position provides excellent visibility, rear passenger space is generous, and the boot offers ample room for family holidays, business equipment or weekly shopping.

The combination of practicality and luxury is exactly what has made the GLC one of Mercedes-Benz’s most successful SUV models.

Value for Money

With a UK starting price of approximately £68,285, the GLC 400 4MATIC firmly sits within the premium SUV sector.

That represents a significant investment, but buyers receive:

  • Fully electric dual-motor four-wheel drive

  • 483 horsepower

  • Up to 406 miles WLTP range

  • Premium Mercedes-Benz interior

  • Advanced infotainment technology

  • Exceptional refinement

  • Outstanding build quality

For company car drivers, the fully electric drivetrain also makes the GLC particularly attractive thanks to favourable Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) taxation compared with equivalent petrol or diesel alternatives.

Final Verdict

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC is exactly what you’d expect from Mercedes-Benz.

It’s beautifully built, packed with technology, incredibly refined and genuinely enjoyable to drive.

The wraparound digital cockpit creates a real sense of occasion every time you climb inside, while the quiet cabin and comfortable ride make longer journeys effortless.

My only lingering question concerns the performance.

With nearly 500 horsepower and sports car levels of acceleration, it occasionally feels like Mercedes has prioritised outright pace over the relaxed character many buyers may be looking for in a luxury family SUV.

That said, it’s difficult to criticise a vehicle for having too much capability.

If you’re looking for one of the most luxurious and technologically advanced electric SUVs currently available in the UK, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC should undoubtedly be on your shortlist.

Rating: 8.9/10

Pros

  • Beautiful premium interior

  • Outstanding refinement

  • Excellent technology

  • Impressive electric range

  • Strong build quality

  • Effortless performance

Cons

  • Performance may be excessive for some buyers

  • Premium purchase price

  • Some drivers may prefer a softer comfort-focused setup

Whether you’re a private buyer or considering your next company car, the Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC demonstrates just how far premium electric SUVs have come. It blends luxury, practicality and cutting-edge technology into a package that’s difficult to fault, and while its acceleration may be more than most families will ever need, it’s undeniably impressive.
